Architect Roger Ferris has utilized his talents to create a one-of-a-kind minimalist waterfront poolhouse - and it’s located right in Westport.

As a modernist, Ferris is typically known for his bold and contemporary designs, but the poolhouse gives this style a new meaning.

The building itself is mostly underground and barely visible aside from a sleek skylight, which runs the length of the green roof. The entrance comprises nothing more than a sloping lawn down to the front door, in between two retaining and specifically-angled walls.

The project was designed for Fiona Garland, an avid swimmer, and her husband, Andrew Bentley.

“I just wanted this gentle rise, with as little of the building showing as possible,” Ferris told Architectural Digest. “The poolhouse is something you should discover.”

The couple originally purchased the property intending to construct their main house on it. But after purchasing the lot next door, they changed direction and opted to enlist Ferris to design a contemporary barn and poolhouse on the land instead.

Needless to say, Garland and Bentley are living luxuriously and have “no regrets” regarding the building’s sleek and hidden yet elegant design.

“I always thought of it as main living space,” said Ferris. “The site is too spectacular not to treat it as a place to dwell.”
